Bureaucracy and toxicity undermine any efforts at collaboration. In some industries, bureaucracy is unavoidable, but it does not mean there is no need to question why a rule is a rule. Some policies only impede progress – these should be reassessed, modified, or abolished. Finally, you may have to reshuffle your team to keep toxic people out. These employees cost more than they are worth, however much money they bring. Toxicity erodes trust – the foundation of all else, and its effects go far beyond one person.
