Apply provocative questioning. Challenge their status quo. Make sure they understand the difference between goals, plan, and strategy. Set clear boundaries. Ask them for their expectations, though don't confirm that the outcome will be exactly as they expect it right now. Make sure they understand that goals get transformed into new, more ambitious goals, plan gets updated along the way, and strategy is there not to keep them in a fixed mindset but to help them create a growthmindset.

Challenge them to embrace discomfort, explore new avenues, and learn from setbacks. Encourage setting realistic yet ambitious goals and holding themselves accountable for their actions. Furthermore, prompt reflection on experiences, evaluation of outcomes, and identification of key learnings to foster continuous improvement and personal development.

Respect is demonstrated in a vast number of ways. As a coach, one of the ways I demonstrate respect for my clients is by being ethical, always. This contributes directly to having a supportive and collaborative coaching relationship. Ethical practice, in coaching, includes - helping someone who is new to coaching understand what coaching is/is not; - educating the client on how to be a learner in the coaching relationship (i.e., reflecting after a session, how to prepare for a session, etc) - helping the client understand how to make "best use" of coaching (they may not know and may feel timid to ask) - maintaining confidentiality and communicating that explicitly Ultimately, respect is about showing care.

Trust your client's honesty, commitment, and capability to achieve their goals, while also fostering trust in yourself as a competent, credible, and compassionate coach. Embrace the coaching process as a potent catalyst for positive change. Building trust entails consistency, reliability, and authenticity in interactions, honoring agreements, and demonstrating value and expertise, ultimately nurturing a strong foundation for collaborative growth and development.
