How do you evaluate programming language support?

According to me the most important ones we should look out for 1. Ecosystem and the community support that the language has. 2. Industry Adoption. 3. Updates / Revisions /Bug fixes 4. Performance

To evaluate a programming languages support, you start by having a look at the languages documentation. A good documentation will most times give you a clear and concise understanding of of the in's and out's of the language along with some of it's libraries and frameworks.

I very rarely use what most consider to be standard programming languages. There are languages and platforms for web and computer design/development like V.B., C+,HTML, Flash, Python, ect,ect. I am an automation guy. I use Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Structured Text, I also program CNC so G code. What type of programming are we discussing here??

Look at the early adopters curve and chose your appetite for risk vs cutting edge. Every design decision comes with pro's and con's. The best language is the one your team knows and you have confidence that you can deliver the project. But newer technologies generally allow for faster, better and stronger technologies, though the learning curve is increased as is the chance of failure.

Industry and community support are like fickle and subjective and can be dismissed. To quote Einstein " What is popular is not always right. And what is right is not always popular."

What exactly does programming language support mean? Presumably it is different from the support that's provided for the products that are created using the language.

Documentation is the essential part of any programming language. More clearer the Docs, less friction to onboard the developers in using that language. The growth of a language is directly proportional to the strength of the Community.
