I agree with the article and the other contributions. It's important to understand that the ATS scores your resume, and the Recruiter looks at the list of applicants and their scores. They assume that the resumes that scored the highest are the best candidates. You may be the best person for the job, but if your resume didn't score well, the Recruiter may not even look at your resume. I've had many clients with outstanding experience and skills feel rejected and doubt their worthiness, when in reality, no one was even looking at their resumes. Take the extra time to tailor your resume to ensure that it scores at least 80% and is ATS-friendly!

You cannot beat a computer, you can match a computer. One mistake outside the very specific ATS format can count you out of the opportunity for an interview. A resume isn't an art show with graphs, shading, graphics etc. It's a fact-based, performance-driven document. While you want to avoid an overt "keyword soup" situation, the bottom line is that your resume NEEDS to have relevant keywords to the job description to even have a prayer of getting past the ATS and into the hands of an actual human. I copy the listing into Word and have Grammerly look for action verbs and repeated phrases. Also use synonym searches for those action verbs and to stop reusing the same terms.

I use the 'new set of eyes' have someone else look at it, have found when going over and over I see what I want it to say, even if it doesn't say that. And some one that has no clue about the details of my work and skills will have some informative questuons

The most reliable tools for creating a resume are Microsoft Word and Google Docs. Lastly, job seekers should ensure their resume files are appropriately labelled. It's best to avoid generic labels like 'My Resume' or 'My CV', which I've seen many professionals use.
