Actually the management of a complex construction project without utilizing technology would suffer a lot and never achieve the expected efficiency. This applies on all aspects such as communication, organizing construction documents with easy access and sharing, project scheduling, tracking and monitoring construction progress, construction cost and resources utilization, furthermore, modeling the project will minimize clashes between different trades thus avoiding remedial works and additional cost or time. I always implement some kind of PMIS on any project that I manage. Technology, especially project management technology is an invaluable tool. The efficiency, audit-ability, and analytical gains alone are justification enough to incorporate modern PM technology into everything that I do.

A software without a proper system is like owning a having a calculator without understanding what a number is. It is obvious that a project management software can streamline workflows and minimize human error, but without proper communication and a system, organizations will not reap the benefits of such a tool. Complex projects require a team of professionals with a common vision and communication processes. Any other tools come second.

It helps in outlining the allocation of financial resources for facilitating cash generation, accordingly I strongly recommend digital transformation, including investments in construction technology and training.

Although I agree that BIM helps a lot to visualize the project therefore simplify the process of design, communication and decision making for all stakeholders, besides the ability to flag any miscoordination between different trades in the design so avoid the cost of remedial works during construction, BIM still requires much effort, manpower and subsequent additional cost to produce a well coordinated model for the project which makes investors have little interest in using BIM and pursue the relevant return on investment. I believe that developers of BIM software would need to utilize AI and work more to simplify the production of a model and integration with cost management and construction scheduling.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a digital process used in the AEC industry to integrate data into building components and create 3D representations. The ISO 19650 standard is globally adopted, including in the UK, to ensure standardized BIM implementation within organizations. Challenges arise when individuals do not follow the standards, leading to disorganization and failure to achieve BIM objectives. Achieving 100% BIM implementation is difficult as it requires aligning digital processes with on-site construction. Embracing new technologies and regulations is necessary to achieve BIM at any level or stage, despite varying levels of understanding and acceptance.

Even though having BIM software is a great revolution in construction but there are always downside of the technology. There are many areas in BIM that need to improve, to transform the model data into reality. and software only give solutions to the problems in the database, innovation always comes from human mind.

Mobile devices and apps are now the heart of any communication, therefore, it is necessary to utilize the same in construction management to streamline the workflow during construction, site supervision and operation. mobile devices can benefit largely from GPS localization, visual communication plus online access to documentation on site, this definitely enhance and simplify the management of any construction project. furthermore, developing customized apps that monitor resources for safety, progress and efficiency can add a lot of value to the project and minimize deficiency in all aspects.

Our field surveyors use not only field data collectors with their GPS & conventional survey equipment, but also multiple apps on their smart phones to visualize the project boundary. They also communicate instantaneously with the office to send point files to be incorporated into the project. From their hotel rooms, they use their laptops to create "sketches" of the field work so that our drafting team can complete the drawings. Mobile devices and apps have greatly increased our productivity from ten plus years ago. We almost always have enough cell system connectivity to do our work. This was also not the case only 10-15 years ago.

It also helps bring more accountability to subs and vendors as well as project managers and customers. If properly utilized, programs like these can sometimes save thousands of dollars on mistakes, time saved, office staff and other ways.

In my opinion I would say so far that one of the most added value of drones and cameras is the ability to access difficult and unsafe locations in construction sites where much more effort, and cost would be required to access without the use of such devices besides jeopardizing the safety of resources, for example, drones now are used to clean sky scrappers facades and cameras are used to monitor all project locations at all the time, another example would be, the integration between drones, cameras and computer applications which simplifies the topographical survey for remote locations and projects.

We use drone photography on a majority of our site surveys. These give us an overview and snapshot of exactly what the site looks like the day we did the work. Back in the office, the drone orthophoto allows us to create the linework of the improvements found on the site. We also get camera shots from the ground of things we think that can't be seen from the overhead photos. We also avoid hazardous situations by keeping our people out of traffic situations and can draw almost all roadway elements from the orthophoto.

Once algorithms have been trained on enough data from project timelines, weather conditions, recorded delays etc. patterns and trends can be analysed for certain sequences of events that has historically resulted in a project delay. This should be used to support a PM’s foresight to program accordingly rather than empirical evidence supporting a dispute to a claim. Unless an agreement was reached by which the head contractor had access to the same data and was empowered with the same foresight, it would be hard to weave into a contract since it’s unbroken ground. Mutual collaboration is needed.
