Ideally, the end of this kind of relationship would not come as a surprise to either party. There should be open exploration of what has changed and what options there are to address any concerns. If the exit is on agreed terms, the risk of loss of trust in other key relationships can be minimised. This is a lesson the Australian government learned the hard way after terminating a submarine contract with France.

Constant monitoring, examining KPI's and adapting to the changes will definitely help.No one will end up with termination if there are frequent checks on the current state and adding right plans at right time. Offcourse if things are going out of control and getting worst even by constant monitoring, then all the parties involved would have to come together and agree on the same approach /decision for ending up the partnership with all the pros and cons.

Ending a strategic partnership or alliances is one of the worst nightmare for a company. The evaluation of a partner happens on multiple factors which includes product, approach, vision, cost, value add to each other etc etc. This creates a win-win value propositions for both the parties and helps them decide and move forward. However while one enters into an agreement for a partnership or alliances one has to have it in black and white which covers the indemnity, liability, BCP and termination which eventually plays a crucial role in and helps in an adverse situation wherein the partnership has to end.

Once you have negotiated the terms of the exit, you should execute the exit plan according to the agreed timeline and procedures. You should fulfill your obligations and responsibilities, such as delivering the final products or services, transferring the assets or information, settling the accounts or debts, and releasing the liabilities or claims. Keep on putting in the effort to grow other strategic partnerships until you find one that works well for everyone.
