Most change strategies fail in the execution not the planning. In my experience, when an organization decides on change, everyone wants change, except no one wants to change themselves. Reframing change as a mission helps. We are aiming for a goal. We want to take the company (specifically) here…. What should we be doing to get there faster, efficiently, etc…(SWOT discovery). Input is culled and codified, combined with leadership, data and external acumen. A collective, transparent and streamlined strategic mission is developed offering purpose and alignment. But understand, a single path will not represent how everyone wanted things to go. There will be resistors, and you need to identify them early and plan for them.

There are some steps you could typically follow to define change objectives for this process in the organization: 1. Identify the problem or opportunity 2. Conduct a needs assessment 3. Set goals based on the needs assessment 4. Prioritize objectives 5. Develop an action plan 6. Communicate the objectives to all internal and external stakeholders 7. Monitor progress against objectives and make adjustments

?? Clarify Objectives: Although goal setting can be challenging, aim for goals that are specific, measurable, and attainable. ?? Align with Vision: Verify the changefits into the organization's mission and values in the way a puzzle piece can be matched to the picture on the box. ?? Scope It Out: Determine whether a change is limited to a part of something or transform it from scratch like renovating each room of a house.

Review roles and responsibilities. Identify important, priority and critical changes that must happen. Assess risks and opportunities related to changes in each department and work team. Write down an idea of the change and the differences between the new model and the current state, and share it with the stakeholders.

Change is rarely linear, we can identify early signs of resistance, unforeseen challenges, or emerging opportunities. This adaptive approach enables us to fine-tune our strategy and maintain momentum throughout the change process. Rather than simply considering how the change will affect different aspects of the organization, actively involve representatives from these areas in co-creating the change strategy. This ensures that the change is also bottom-up, fostering a sense of ownership and commitment across the organization. By treating change as an iterative, co-created journey rather than a fixed plan, we enhance the likelihood of sustainable success and deeper organizational transformation.

The basic CHANGE INITIATIVE framework is universal: goal, target, assessment, strategy, plan, but the steps are deep and broad. Transparency and organizational involvement is key. The negative repercussions of missing this step are vastly underestimated. There is a second step, CHANGE EXECUTION: Alignment, Resistance, Adjustment, Adaptation to NEW Status Quo. Planning for obstacles that include personnel, and providing alternate paths forward are essential to success. Change, good or bad, is disruption. Redefining change as a mission wherein everyone understands their individual purpose, and the goal helps transformation. Important to note: Not everyone has to change at the same time, they just have to move in the same direction.

This can mitigating risk, provide foundational support, and usher in full change over time. I assign specific roles and responsibilities, ensuring everyone knows their part in driving the change. Monitoring progress is critical, so I use key metrics and indicators to track how well the change is being implemented. Regular check-ins help identify any adjustments needed to keep the plan on track. I also believe in celebrating small wins—recognizing the efforts of the team and stakeholders not only boosts morale but reinforces the benefits of the change, helping to sustain momentum throughout the process.

?? Deep Dive into Data: Analyze the results against the goals that you set out to achieve, just as a scientist learn from experiment results. ?? Lesson Learned: Differentiate between or highlight things that made the party successful and the ones that didn’t and plan accordingly. ?? Align with Strategy: Make sure the movement continues to stay making the same decisions as outlined by your compass.

In steering strategic change, the evaluation and integration phase has been pivotal. My role in technology management underscored the importance of embedding change into the organization's DNA.
