How do you design and implement a hybrid cloud disaster recovery and business continuity plan?

While I agree that RTO/RPO are important considerations for systems and processes, you have to know what those systems and processes are. Before defining an RTO/RPO, I find it helpful to make a list of all systems and processes. Once you have a list, divide that list up into categories based on most critical to operating your business to those that are least critical to operating your business. This way you can set RTO/RPO based on each category which will help when it comes to budgeting for your DR/BCP plan.

I recall setting up a disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plan for our hybrid cloud. Here’s how we did it: Assess Risks and Goals: We identified potential threats to our operations and data. This involved listing everything from natural disasters to cyber-attacks. ?? Testing is critical to any DR/BCP plan. DR testing should be done with real user testing and validation. I've seen too many DR tests that just consist of running the test button in the solution and relying on the report at the end for a successful test. Last thing you want for any business during a disaster is a solution that doesn't work or misses a critical application that was added to the business but never made it into the DR/BCP plan.

This worked very well for one of our use-case: - Create Scenarios: We created realistic disaster scenarios to test our DR/BCP.
