Creating and executing a strategic plan for your course requires a systematic and collaborative process that involves six steps:
The first step is to analyze your current situation and identify your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). You can use various tools and methods, such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, benchmarking, and financial analysis, to gather data and feedback from your stakeholders, customers, competitors, and industry trends. This will help you understand your market position, customer needs, competitive advantages, and areas for improvement.
Know your capacity, what you can do and what you cannot do. You must assess your resources and check if it can sustain your course.
The second step is to articulate your vision for your course, which is a clear and compelling statement of what you want to achieve in the long term. Your vision should reflect your values, purpose, and aspirations, and inspire your team and your customers. You can use questions such as: What is your core reason for being? What makes your course unique and valuable? What impact do you want to have on your community and the environment?
In clear terms, you must express what you want to achieve by embarking on the project. State what motivated you to conceive this vision in a way that there will be buy-in of people.
The third step is to translate your vision into specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals and objectives. Goals are broad statements of what you want to accomplish, while objectives are the concrete steps and indicators that show how you will get there. You can use a balanced scorecard approach to set goals and objectives across four perspectives: financial, customer, internal, and learning and growth.
Cascade your vision into achievable goals and objectives. What will the project do for the stakeholders? How will the community benefit from this project? How will government benefit?
The fourth step is to formulate your strategies and action plans, which are the methods and activities that will help you achieve your goals and objectives. Strategies are the general approaches that guide your decisions and actions, while action plans are the detailed plans that assign responsibilities, resources, timelines, and budgets to each task. You can use a SWOT matrix to match your strengths and opportunities with your strategies and action plans.
State how you want to carry out the project. State the likey challenges that you will encounter and how you set to solve these challenges.
The fifth step is to implement your plan, which involves executing your strategies and action plans, communicating your vision and goals, and engaging your team and your customers. You can use various tools and techniques, such as project management software, dashboards, newsletters, and events, to monitor and report on your progress, celebrate your achievements, and address any challenges or changes.
Communicate very well with all stakeholders as you execute your plan. Remember that communication is life. Use communication tools like zoom, sms, memo, email, phone calls, physical meetings etc.
The sixth step is to evaluate your results, which involves measuring and analyzing your performance against your goals and objectives, and identifying any gaps or areas for improvement. You can use various methods and metrics, such as key performance indicators (KPIs), customer satisfaction surveys, financial statements, and audits, to collect and compare data and feedback, and to assess your impact and value. You can also use this step to review and update your plan as needed.
