We communicate goals and expectations three different ways at Regal. Now, obviously you have memos and reports and all that stuff - and we have those going out all the time. But the big three - we do this....every quarter our COO sits down with each branches leadership team and he goes over their goals from last quarter. They talk about successes and lessons learned and they create new priorities for the next quarter. I also go around to each branch - we sit down together and talk about the goals...did we hit them? etc. And finally, we sit down with each employee individually off site for 1-2 hours and talk about their role and their goals and we go over expectations. We also talk about what's working and what's not! This works for us!

I always used to ask my manager on the terms like --- What should I start doing What should I stop doing and What should I continue doing. This helps me to understand the gaps, pick up the opportunity areas and get into continuous learning. Also, always ask for resources, share concerns which will help managers to support and guide at the right time rather than waiting till the last minute.

I used to make it to a point to collaborate and bring the team together to work on any critical aspects, set up a time on a weekly basis to understand concerns, business challenges and brainstorm for better solutions. I also encourage the team to set up fortnight connect for continuous learning where we share about any relevant and new trends, tools, platforms or systems which will help us on experimenting and exploring new things.

In addition to setting the tone from the top: 1) Gather top performers from every part and rank in the organization, 2) Get them to formalize the behaviors that explain their performance (eg. in a workshop). You get your very own Leadership Model. 3) Send this is out company-wide during goal-setting period, and incentivize people to set their own individual goals in link with the Leadership Model

Repetition is key. We once went through a great deal of effort to craft a well written, structured and hopefully inspiring 3 year vision, with yearly and quarterly OKR attached. Here is what people remembered 3 months later : oh yes you presented a vision. You need to repeat the same message again & again, in as many different forms as possible. It is only when you will get sick of repeating yourself that your message will start to stick.

Communication isn't a one-time event. If you want everyone on the same page, you need to communicate multiple times, across multiple modalities. You will feel like a broken record, but you are communicating to many people, so you have to communicate many times.
