How do you choose quality digital resources for your field?

I am always searching for the top doctors in their fields. I find the Castle Connolly listings to be very helpful. Then I see if there is a LinkedIn profile for the specific doctor where I can contact them

Hmm.. This is quite right. Some years ago, I was assigned a course, Sociology Through Films (and Societal Realities) teach. At first, it promises to be an exciting class. This is a class that MUST make use of digital resources. As singer prepared for the class, I came across tons of movies and documentaries. However, setting/clarifying the class needs and goal, and more importantly, settings an objective/learning outcomes for each topic/course outline helped in getting on track and in selecting relevant digital materials to aid the teaching.

Teaching a foreign language usually feels like an easier task than teaching a math class, however, in my experience, it has become evidentially important to use the right resources for the right audience. Kids and adults, who already know the Grimm Brothers' stories won't be excited to read them in German again. At the same time, they will be excited to watch shows or movies that they have already watched in English or in other languages and would love to watch the dubbed version in their target language. With streaming platforms reaching the more and more people with a variety of options for dubbing and subtitles, it is becoming easy to watch shows and incorporate it in one's language learning journey.

While I quite agree with four of the criteria, I am always weary to add Accuracy. Yes, for sure, the use of digital resources in Anthropology requires the following considerations: 1. authority, 2. accuracy, 3. currency, and 4. coverage. Unfortunately, since all the works are part of teaching or learning materials, I usually do not consider Objectivity! I used both objective and relative/biased materials. Granting my students access to both, and interrogate same individually and in groups.

For language learning, there simply cannot be a 'one-for-all' textbook or workbook. Every learner has their own strengths and weaknesses. Some learn better with visual cues, some learn better with tables and charts. Some may prefer plenty exercises to be solved outside the classroom, some would rather solve some in the class. Keeping that in mind, it is important to research and choose a better resource that fits the learner's requirements, goals as well as learning capabilities.

For language learning, it is also important to address language learning aptitude. Every learner is unique and therefore will respond differently to different course materials and resources. Adults with learning disabilities, ADHD will require special attention just like the young learners.
