There are factors to be considered when choose or select the right and fit for purpose CB: - Capacity and sizing; rated load current could be increased normally due to ambient temperature, grid voltage drop, wire or cable voltage drops and so far on, for those reasons branches CB should be sized with 1.5 times more than rated load current. Main CB should consider future expansions as well. - Response time , there are many types of CB based on the their response time curves type A, B, C…etc. -Breaking capacity: CB should be selected based on studied short circuit current at that placed to be able to break heavy lsc. - Surrounding temperature; especially with miniature CB temperature raise could lower their rated values.

Things get a lot more complicated when you enter the realm of three phase power. There is a very real risk of both lethal shock and arc flash. The choice of an over current protective device would include factors as frame or destruct rating, interrupt current rating, cycle time for trip response. Further, your plant single line would require coordination studies requiring review of breaker and fuse trip curves and the decision to introduce protection relays, especially for larger low voltage power circuit breakers and MV metal clad switchgear.

When using cord and plug tools and equipment, always use a GFCI (Ground fault Circuit Interrupter) also known as RCD (Residual Current Device) the other side of the Atlantic. They monitor the difference between phase and neutral currents wrt ground on a single phase circuit and usually trip at 5-6ma (the threshold of pain in an electric shock).

Any critical task should always be preceded by a Risk Assessment (commonly achieved by a JHA or JSA form at industrial and commercial sites). Electrically, this includes Lockout/Tagout, Setup of a Safe Work Zone for testing, PPE and mitigation for all, not just electrical hazards
