How do you build the resilience and capacity of the institutions and systems involved in DRR and recovery?
Disaster risk reduction (DRR) and recovery are interrelated and complementary processes that aim to reduce the impact of natural and human-induced hazards on people, assets, and the environment. However, to achieve this goal, it is not enough to focus on the technical aspects of DRR and recovery, such as hazard assessment, early warning, preparedness, response, and reconstruction. It is also essential to build the resilience and capacity of the institutions and systems that are involved in these processes, such as governments, communities, civil society, private sector, and international partners. In this article, we will discuss some of the key elements and strategies to enhance the institutional and systemic resilience and capacity for DRR and recovery.
