How do you become a system on a chip architect?

There's a slightly different perspective of master the tools vs master the foundational components. Foundational components of HDL(s), tool flow, and modeling languages allow you to move to different environments (Synopsys or Cadence) and learn the pitfalls of the particular tool quickly. If you specialize in a tool set it's not getting you toward architecture, it's a path to very consistent work in design/verification/validation.
