He said that he spends 1 hour every day learning something new in the field. This was someone at the top of their field and he still spent time each day expanding his knowledge. There are many ways to become a cybersecurity student including, but not limited to, school, self study, experiments and labs, conferences, mentorship, books, training, and more. What’s important is that you never stop being a student.
First things first, you must learn about basic IT foundational knowledge (if you dont know it already). There are various free courses available on Linkedin and other platforms. Once you have attained foundational IT knowledge, you must learn about Cybersecurity Foundations. There’s a brilliant course on Linkedin Learning. It will give you an excellent overview of what to expect in the field of Cybersecurity. From here on, read about different domains/fields within Cybersecurity and read basic information to learn more about various domains, then tailor your learning accordingly. Cybersecurity is a dynamic field and you must commit to lifelong learning.

I agree with Gonzalo. Build up your networking, operating system, and application skills first. Sitting on a helpdesk is also not a bad idea, since that experience can help shape and refine your people skills. Also, look at the world of cybersecurity as a general concept first before trying to gravitate toward a specific area of interest. You want a well-round view on both IT and IS (information security) to make the best decision on the next step in your career. Last, make sure you intern or apprentice to get the experience needed to land a job.

At the start, explore each and everything in Cybersecurity. From Blue teaming to Red, from GRC or Network architectures or monitoring. CTFs can give you a very nice taste. Study books and basic concepts on YouTube or Google. My suggestion is that do not go for certifications. You can learn a lot from certifications but the real motive behind getting the certification is to land a job, get promoted, or make yourself visible in the field or future opportunities. All that is essential and good but not for someone who is just learning and exploring this area.

Where one might have previously specialized in a single domain such as encryption methodologies, Now it requires practitioners to expand their focus and incorporate security as a principle across the entire technology lifecycle, from concept to development, to implementation. Independent of platform, hardware, software, or application, we all must start looking across the ecosystem. This means research and deployment of emerging techniques to our development stacks, along with the application of security principles in the policy development, or rollout of new technology like generative AI.

It always is a good approach, to have a clear look on the opposing side of topics that you are dealing with at a time. The red-team / blue-team approach may be the most obvious example for this. When you try to defend, it is good to know the attacker′s tools. When you try to attack, you will be doing good in knowing the common defenses you will have to deal with. And in this roundabout of discovery, keep your eyes open for side-alleys you might pick up additional packages of knowledge from and maybe discover something, that might be quite the game-changer for you.

Not much to add here other than, don't let things like not passing a certification slow you down. Study up and try again. We all slip and fall from time to time. Ask questions of peer groups to help with understanding in areas you struggle. There's no shame in having to take a test twice. Just make sure you take the time to improve your understanding before trying again.
Find a good mentor. Join and participate in community of practice groups. Expose yourself to all facets of the industry. Remember its not all about collecting certificates however, having the right ones will help.

If you want to grow in this realm same rule applies. - Learn & be dynamic. - Invest your own time in understanding industry trends - Clear your basics - Talk to people - Attend conferences / webinars - Ask for opportunities rather than waiting for things to fall in your way - Be persuasive

Aiming for certain certifications is a great way to put your knowledge to the test. Be honest and sincere in preparing for certification. If you still fail, it is perfectly fine, but you need to take enough effort to learn from your mistakes before your next attempt. CTFs are another great way to broaden your technical prowess.
In addition to all the great suggestions and guidance from others experiences, look at the problems you want to solve -big or small-and dream and design ideas to consider. The constant changing marketplace needs visionaries that always ask questions and look for ways to improve processes or create new to solve everyday issues.
Learning on the job is - and always has been - a brilliant way to build your knowledge on the subject of cyber security. You will see plenty of entry level roles advertised with criteria that you may think are unattainable to you. Despite this, a quick conversation with the hiring manager to find out what they need and how you could help them can often go a long way. Some background knowledge and a genuine passion for cyber can get you surprisingly far in the entry level job market for information security. Furthermore, this is can be a good way to place yourself in an environment where you pick up skills from others in the industry and show cyber security employers your potential for growth.
Learn to work as a team. Keeping systems secure is a team effort. As a student get involved in team projects. Work in study groups.
Especially when starting journeys in yet undiscovered problem environments it is crucial to sustain a strong will to find the path to success - may it be the solution of a problem, the discovery of a vulnerability or a way to exploit it - on your own. There will be times when you feel like hitting walls in every direction but one thing i can promise you: There′s nothing more self-confirming, than finding the pieces and perfecting a puzzle using your own developed skills. Such experiences will not only foster your confidence, but probably will also be most valuable learning experiences.
I strongly recommend to start with the basics of IT and to have a good knowledge about network infrastructure, TCP/IP, operating systems, database, security appliances. With this knowledge you can dig deeper into cybersecurity and start learning how to secure each of these elements
