How do you balance the use of automation with personalized candidate experiences in staffing services?

In my view, it is a helpful searching tool. However, lets consider for a few moments, how AI could be detrimental to the staffing and hiring process. 1. Companies are very sensitive to addressing and working on bias and inequality in their own organizations. It is very easy for an AI tool to build experience on algorithm's that could potentially interfere with those efforts. 2. In many instances, evaluating soft skills and emotional intelligence is crucial, especially in team dynamics. AI cannot provide that. 3. Lastly, in my 20+ years in this business vertical it has been always important to my candidates and myself to have a human and compassionate connection with them. They depend on us to feed their families. We depend on them too. :)

Automating screening questions and answers will definitely help in removing/eliminating candidates whom did not meet the requirements for the role we are recruiting. This will save time hence improving the time to screen of the candidates to move them to the next steps.

In short, change it up. Don't use the exact same verbiage in every automation email and make sure your verbiage is friendly (how you would actually talk to a person). Also, listen to the feedback that you are given. If you seeing people opt out of emails take a look at what you are sending. In other words don't just set it and forget it, keep revamping verbiage and automations.

It is so important to establish relationships with your candidates. I usually try to find one (even if it is tiny) thing that we have in common to help break the ice when we initially speak. I want them to know I am human too and that I do not just consider them another notch on my belt!

I feel like automation in staffing certainly has its place and that place is largely determined by the candidate experience you're aiming to achieve and the tools you have to choose from. The roles and industries you're recruiting on will also determine how to best utilize AI. Remaining agile and innovative while keeping your end goal in mind is important. For me personally, I prefer a high touch experience and believe AI can never replace a human when it comes to thoroughly screening candidates, but feel you need to keep an open mind as new advancements come out and see what works best for you and your candidates.

I'm a big fan of automation. It's an excellent way to optimize your process and increase efficiency. The key to a successful automation strategy is to implement it in the "back office" where the candidate can't actually see it so that it does't affect the candidate experience. For example, automated video interview questions up front are not a great experience for the candidate and they're not worth the minimal gains but using calendaring tools that allow candidates to schedule their own interviews with you at their own convenience are a win for everyone.
