When I've recorded sesion players, they often remove one of the headphones to be able to connect with the audio around them whilst hearing the track that they are playing along to. Have to be careful that the unused headphone, on top of their hear isn't bleeding too much of hte track. But with louad instruments such as brass it's usually not a problem

I love the open back headphones for recording guitar, vocals and even drums. I own the DT 990 Pro 250ohm open back headphones from Beyerdynamic and they always deliver. The isn't any coloring of the sound like music headphones tend to have and it gives you an accurate picture of the stereo image you are recording. Great for mixing but obviously not for use when a closed back headphone is needed in say in a vocal booth. I hope this helps. P.S. With a high resistance pair of studio headphones you need a headphone amp to properly power the drivers. I use a S-8 headphone amp and it has plenty of power and also has 8 outputs so everyone in the band and the studio can tune in and listen to the mix. Justin S. Unstrung Records

A few other helpful ideas: - Pick a click sound that doesn't clash with what you're recording. If you're tracking drums, find a shaker so that if bleed happens, it isn't unpleasant. - If recording with one headphone off, pan the click to the headphone that is on, so that the open headphone isn't blaring click into the recording environment. - Consider microphone placement in relationship to headphones. Is there an angle that puts the headphones out of alignment with the sound source you're trying to record?
