Context analysis is the most important step as it forms the basis for all further actions for peacebuilding. If this is influenced unduly by any one or more factors in the conflict affected area, it can result in delay, if not failure, of the peacebuilding process. For example, political processes may need to be given a lower priority in the initial stages, vis-a-vis enforcement/enhancement of security measures. However, political considerations often overshadow this essential requirement & political processes are initiated with stakeholders without ensuring security/safety, leading to situations where the mission could meet with failure in the long run. Absolute objectivity in context analysis is, therefore, an essential prerequisite!

Navigating the Sudan vs South Sudan conflict, effective peacebuilding hinges on a meticulous context analysis. Constantly examining the conflict's origins, dynamics, involved actors, and the evolving landscape is crucial, especially considering South Sudan's eventual secession from Sudan. Drawing insights from diverse and credible sources, this analysis forms the bedrock, ensuring a nuanced understanding of the complex environment. Regular updates are imperative, capturing changes and trends to adeptly address the challenges and opportunities presented by the Sudan-South Sudan situation.

Diverse local voices are key to really inform the extent of the conflict and all who hold the ability to influence any possible outcomes. Often this step is neglected, when implementing new phases of peacebuilding programs. The context is rapidly changing and might lead to implementation risks if not re-assessed regulary. At the stage of the program design, the situation usually speaks one thing. While during the implementation stage, it speaks something else. This needs to be considered by peacebuilding program managers to ensure proper risk management planning and better outcomes.

Incorporating trauma management plans (TMPs) in every peace building process can go a long way: - Firstly, TMPs require considering historical traumas in a group to ensure the process mitigates for trauma exposure and can understand reactions and responses of people as they navigate the process. - Secondly, TMPs can incorporate ongoing awareness, understanding and self-regulation so groups can stay engaged in the process longer. - Thirdly, TMPs must incorporate trauma management for communities as well as peace builders themselves, allowing the work to mitigate for vicarious and secondary trauma. If done right, peace builders can manage their own well-being while contributing to peace building in a more sustainable way.

The neutrality of the UN in conflict affected areas is a ubiquitous principle for its involvement in peacebuilding. The day any party to the conflict perceives the UN as a partial entity, the chances of success get minimised. For example, in UNMEE (in 2007-08) a narrative was propagated that the UN was partial to Ethiopia and that the failure to fix the Ethiopian-Eritrean International Boundary was due to the UN siding with the Ethiopian government. This narrative snowballed into a situation where the Eritrean government simply stopped supporting the UN logistically and enforced restrictions on movement of UN personnel, that utltimately resulted in the closure of the UNMEE.

One other principle of peace building is ensuring natural justice by giving a fair hearing and representation of all parties. This ensures sustainable resolution especially in ADR settlements.

Human rights and peace implementation present heavily inter-connected agendas further nourished by the upholding of vital principles such as transparency, accountability, and inclusion. Without respecting the common conduct of human rights and its underlying principles, peace cannot be effectively implemented. Hence, strictly following peace-building ethics will not only allow your foundational efforts to succeed but also further enable you and your peace-building efforts to better adapt to perpetually changing environments, whether these changes occur due to conflict, climate change, etc.

Adhering to peacebuilding ethics and principles is essential for maintaining integrity, credibility, and effectiveness in peacebuilding efforts. These principles provide a framework for ethical decision-making, ensuring that interventions are respectful, inclusive, and sustainable. By upholding these principles, practitioners can contribute to building trust, promoting accountability, and ultimately achieving lasting peace.

Learning and reflection should be routinely conducted throughout one’s attempts to build peace within regions. However, not only should a space for personal learning and reflection be created, but a space for outside constructive discourse and dialogue should also occur to nourish one’s lessons and personal reflections. One central aspect of peace regards permitting the presence of free thought expression and the diversity and range of such elements within a society. Hence, allowing yourself to open up to novel perspectives regarding your efforts is crucial in helping you adhere to peace-building principles and further improve your own understanding.

Indeed, fostering a culture of learning and reflection is vital for continuous improvement and adaptation in peacebuilding efforts. By systematically collecting and analyzing data, reflecting on outcomes, and engaging stakeholders in the process, practitioners can enhance effectiveness and responsiveness to evolving contexts. This iterative approach enables the identification of lessons learned and best practices, leading to more informed and impactful interventions.

Allowing yourself to be open to novel methods, systems, tools, and perspectives remains vital to peacebuilding. Without allowing yourself to consider the diverse and valued feedback of stakeholders, professionals, and the local communities you are working within, your efforts will face great stagnation. Remaining flexible is also vital, as you are bound to run into barriers and trek a rocky path. Hence, pursuing flexibility and innovation should become critical goals for all peacebuilders.

Amid direct threats from groups like AQIM, UN peacekeepers showcased resilience by embracing flexibility and innovation. They dynamically adjusted plans, incorporating creative and experimental approaches. Adapting objectives to the evolving context enhanced effectiveness and efficiency. This proactive stance allowed peacekeepers to navigate uncertainties in the peacebuilding environment, showcasing a commitment to staying agile and effective in the face of evolving challenges.

In UN peacekeeping, effective communication is paramount. Before missions, engaging with diverse actors and stakeholders ensures a comprehensive understanding of local contexts. During operations, constant collaboration fosters coordination, enhancing the impact of multidimensional peacekeeping. After deployment, sustained dialogue with communities and partners facilitates post-mission stability. UN peacekeepers adeptly navigate this dynamic process, employing strategic communication and collaboration to build trust, address challenges, and pave the way for sustainable peace in complex, multifaceted environments.

While working in peacebuilding can be incredibly rewarding, it often comes at a great price. Living in a fragile state context in protected compounds, and with severe limitations to your movements, social life and contact with family and friends has a larger impact than what most people might imagine. Building your resilience through critical self-reflection, development of personal philosophies and taking time out of your day to hone your physical and mental health is crucial. Coping with stress and tension becomes a balancing game that we all have to overcome. Similarly, the immense inputs we often experience can both stunt or drown us, so here another balance must be struck e.g. letting ourselves feel without being overwhelmed by it.

Peacebuilders face dire situations exposing them to major risks. Due to the sensitive nature of Peace-building interventions. Self-care is not only crucial for mental strength but must be taken seriously by the hiring manager. Legal protection and monetary compensation are also essential factors to enhance resilience and shock-responsive behavior.

Drawing from my experiences as a UN Peacekeeper across Central African Republic, DR Congo, Mali, Sudan, and South Sudan, navigating complex peacebuilding environments demands a nuanced approach. In dynamically evolving situations, such as those in DR Congo and Mali, continuous assessment and adaptability are crucial. Cultural sensitivity, witnessed in Sudan, strengthens community relationships. Collaboration, as seen across diverse missions, amplifies peacebuilding impact. Training, adaptive leadership, conflict prevention, robust communication, and resilience building, learned from various deployments, collectively contribute to lasting stability and positive transformations.

What we propose is a simple method.... To promote a culture of peace and non-violence, global unity and appreciation of cultural diversity and of cultures contribution to sustainable development To separate the basis of spiritualism and materialism in the short and "go-between" form of literature that defines the spectrum of religious definitions in a single notion, building trust between all cultures, norms and mores, without disgracing the faith of any humankind on Earth. To serve a common subject to empower the United Nations as a body to aid in formulating a straightforward and direct relationship with the public at the grass roots level through academia hubs, to ensure the safety and morality of our future generation .

Prioritize urgent interventions to ensure continued implementation of the peacebuilding activities. Ensure there is a clear raodmap, updated workplan and usable tools, to manage resources and budget accordingly. The changing aspect in the environment could include security challenges, disasters, and extreme weather conditions. Based on the context, decide which activity needs to be prioritized.

Apply the principles of conflict sensitivity maintaining continuous monitoring of the context and being flexible enough in your project implementation to course correct and that means allocating resources to do so right from beginning. Expect it to happen and plan for it ahead rather than be faced with the changes and have to plan to adapt accordingly. A conflict sensitive approach is not just about your project but the environment within which you are implementing this plan and how your own policies and interaction with the community may be further complicating the already complex context.
