1 What is Kanban?

Kanban is a lean and agile approach that originated in the manufacturing industry and was later adapted for software development and other knowledge work. Derived from the Japanese word “signboard” or “card”, Kanban uses a visual system of cards and columns to represent the flow of work from request to delivery. Each card symbolizes a work item, while each column stands for a stage of the workflow. The core principles of Kanban are to visualize the work and workflow, limit the work in progress (WIP) to reduce overload and waste, manage the flow of work by optimizing throughput and cycle time, implement feedback loops to inspect and adjust the work and process, and improve collaboratively and evolve experimentally.

3 How to implement feedback loops in Kanban?

There are various methods to implement feedback loops in Kanban, depending on the context and the goals of the team. To implement the feedback loops in Kanban, it is important to take into account the seven cadences of Kanban, as these are connected to each other, forming a complete and complex feedback system where the progress of the work is verified and of course in each of them we work with the Kanban board that is available and updated according to the needs and the work done, each of these cadences receives feedback according to the cadence being viewed and according to its objectives, for example the Replenishment Meeting helps us to add more elements to the board as well as to understand, prioritize and agree on the next work to be tackled.
