How can you write a script that appeals to your target audience?

One thing I have found helpful is having the end goal in mind of how I want my audience to respond to my writing. That way it helps me stay on course and directs me to the language to use in order to achieve that goal.

It is important to write a script targeting a certain segment. But for me. It is very important to write in very simple language. So everyone can understand. The next job is to determine the strategy and creativity to compile it. How to choose an angle with a strong and light hook. Then summarize each strong material with appropriate rhyme and structure. And also text, graphic, video plus animation.

A script is evolutionary. For a high-quality script, a writer always goes through multiple drafts before arriving at the final one. Therefore, while defining your goal is essential for a script, utmost rigidity can be precarious. Hence, I always suggest defining the objective of the video in three forms, a logline, a description and a plot. The logline is the rigid part of the script, one that cannot be altered and is usually a one-line gist of the story. The description is a broader explanation of the logline that can be subtly modified but not completely forgotten and lastly, the plot which can be changed as per your wish as long as it goes by the core idea.

Scriptwriting is like planning a journey. Your goal is the destination, and every word you write is a step towards it. Define it clearly - are you leading your audience to a land of laughter, a mountain of motivation, or a valley of knowledge?

Write to your pictures. Your voice/script should reiterate and enhance the message being conveyed in the pictures. Pictures tell a thousand words remember. Make sure your script supports the pictures/visual content your viewers are seeing.

How you would speak about your long-term friend differs from how you would an acquaintance. You may not even be able to know anything about a mere acquaintance apart from their name. Same with your audience, write your script like they are an acquaintance, and they will see it as such, but write your script like they are your long-term friends, and they will engage with your content similarly. One of the ways you can achieve this is through adequate research; that way, you know what your audience wants, what will interest them, what to include and what not to include in your script, to mention a few.

Dive into the soul of your audience, not just stats. Interviews are not surveys; they're journeys into the unknown. Social media is a jungle; observe the beats, hashtags, and memes. Forums are confessions; immerse yourself in the passion. Competitors are rivals; dissect their hits and misses. Google Analytics is your backstage pass to audience behavior. Engage, converse, let their stories serenade you. It's not a report; it's a psychedelic journey into collective consciousness. So, grab your notebooks, crank up curiosity—let's dance on the fringes of comprehension!

Talk to your audience, research hot topics and trends, and try to understand what resonates with them. What productions have they loved recently? What don't they like? What would they love to see? Ultimately, you can't please everyone, and what one person loves another hates, but just trying to understand their perspective and values can go a long way in capturing their attention and hearts.

Match your format and tone to your audience and the message you want to convey. It's like speaking their language. So, think about the vibe you want and the best way to deliver it, and you'll be all set to make a great impression!

The format sculpts the presentation, while the intensity sets the tone of the piece. Choose whether you prefer a more relaxed approach or aspire to a deeper, reflective atmosphere, aiming for a perfect drama. Finding the right balance between format and intensity is the key to captivating the audience, providing an experience that resonates authentically and memorably.

Write the script to suit the production style of the video. If the person will be speaking directly to camera, they can address the audience and talk about their experience, offer advice etc. For an off-camera interview, the script should reflect how they are speaking to another person, who is generally unseen. Each style works for different reasons, but you should know this before writing the script or interview questions.

Video Sales: Honesty. Your tone needs to be honest and fair. Try including an ‘anti-sell’ which is a sentence that makes the product and you real and honest. So instead of “This thickening shampoo is great for every kind of hair” the anti-sell would be “This thickening shampoo is great for every kind of hair unfortunately except gray, thinning hair because the follicles don’t react the same.”

It is also helpful to know how the story ends, first. Having a strong ending is often the best way to ensure an influential ending.

Have predefined cuts to speak in a video. By this you know how to structure them, easy on the learning part also. Now when you know, for example if there is a montage after the line you have said, say it in a way where the audience will expect this. The better your script will align with audience way of thinking, the better will be your turn around ratio for the content.

Outlining your script is like sketching a storyboard. It's the blueprint of your narrative arc – setting the scenes, building the climax, and guiding the resolution. A well-structured script keeps your audience hooked till the final curtain call.

Outlines will save you time in the long run. It will seal your plot up . Your characters will have what is needed from that foundation to not only be able to execute that story, but expand it into other projects.

One of the worst things you can do is commit to an idea that doesn't work on camera and the final products suffers as a result. Keep an open mind, try new ideas, and take feedback with an open mind.

Revising and editing your script is like the director's cut. Trim the excess, sharpen the dialogues, and ensure every line serves a purpose. Remember, a great script is not written; it's rewritten.

Une fois mon script terminé et peaufiné, j'ai pour habitude de le laisser de c?té quelques heures, pour y revenir à tête reposée et le relire d'un nouvel oeil, ce qui me permet de trouver des axes d'amélioration et de le modifier une dernière fois avant sa version finale.
