Value steam mapping:- 1.Powerful lean tool to improve lead time and smooth flow of production. Framework is put together, for example, to help understand how a process is currently working and how it should be working. It's important to know how to deliver value to the customer, while eliminating waste. The customer can be internal or external. Identifying where the work needs to be done by assessing and investigating such things as performance.

Creating Value stream should always start with identifying product or product families that you should focus to improve the customer experience significantly. In many cases , mapping the routes of the products and drawing a product process matrix can help you to understand the products that belong to the same family or routes. Also , VSM should be more about eliminating non value added activities rather than improving value adding activities as it will only lead to marginal improvements. In fact , to improve value using technology or any other changes the machine , you don’t have to map the whole process.

The VSM analysis will be, first of all, relevant to you. More your process is complex, more is it interesting to carry out. It’s important to ensure stakeholders of any Kaizen event or improvement project understand the 8 wastes ( 8 being people ) When mapping the process I prefer to introduce the waste walk checklist to each owner of the hand offs During the process walk these are recorded and added to the map . Yamazumi are a good aid to mapping as they record the non value added steps/ time In summary customers only pay for the value added time when product is being worked on VSM are an excellent method for visually recording defects , travel , over processing , over production , travel and defects . This helps to identify the critical x the process driving variation/waste and subsequent improvements

Once the steps in a process are mapped, the map can be used for any purpose. Value is anything that adds to a step. Waste has no value or removes value. The map, if post-its, can be reviewed to find all steps that apply/impact the customer. Not needed but useful... I use YELLOW for all process steps, but you can use a different colour to highlight specific or "customer related" steps. Now, just looking at the wall, we can see all customer interactions. If we review each "customer" step, we can add a post-it of a different colour to show a benefit (? Green) and another colour to show no benefit (?Orange) Now we can clearly see all the interactions. Any "Orange" post-its can be reviewed and removed/amended to add value. Steve

Zur Aufrechterhaltung kann ein Whiteboard verwendet werden und in den betreffenden Abteilungen für jeden sichtbar aufgestellt werden. Hier sollten die wichtigsten Kennzahlen klar sichtbar aufgeführt werden (nicht ver?nderbar) und Raum für Beobachtungen/feedback Ihrer Mitabreiter vorhanden sein, um den jeweiligen Ist-Zustand zu dokumentieren. Dieser sollte dann in Ihre VSM eingearbeitet werden und in einem zuvor festgelegten Zeitrahmen aktualisiert und ver?ffentlicht werden.
