One thing I have found helpful to set a provacant statement and being silent afterwards. The audience will think about it and then to ask the audience for their optinion

Pauses and suspense. Create silence. Yes, silence. Sometimes even silence that feels too long. It's such a strong way of commanding attention, my experience tells me. Because when there is silence, people become more aware. Its a very human physiological thing. When you talk, and then "suddenly" (best to do it after a big statement) become silent. For a long time. So long so that people have thought about your statement enough. Then hold it for a bit longer, and then continue. Setting the volume of a room by "governing" sound is perhaps the single most potent tool I have in my arsenal ;)

Voice modulation is an impactful strategy. A pause, a booming statement, a smooth tapering off of crescendo can cause even a non responsive audience to wake up! Short story telling when relevant can establish immediate connection with the listeners. Engaging the audience with easy to answer questions and responding with grace and positivity to each answer is a good way to connect. Summarising at the end is a nice way to leave an impression.

Similarly, if you receive unexpected questions or feedback from the audience, embrace them as opportunities to deepen the conversation and enhance audience engagement.
