How can you use the V-Model to improve communication in product development?

The V-Model is the conductor’s baton, elegantly orchestrating the development process. It’s a framework that visualizes the relationship between each development stage and its corresponding testing phase.

Just as a well-conducted orchestra produces a harmonious melody, the V-Model orchestrates efficiency and clarity. This can be particularly challenging when trying to mix Agile and V together in one team. There is a risk of waiting until the requirement set is perfected before starting the software development. The concept of applying Product Maturity to your design artifacts/parts can help unlock a few necessary methodologies. In particular, if you recognise something is low maturity, you can tailor your process to lighten the level of governance throughout the design, review, release and procurement process. It serves a fail fast, fail often approach. If you apply too high a product maturity too soon, initial release of the artifact/design requires a lot of rigour and change becomes more onerous. If it's the first time designing, integrating and testing the product, things will go wrong. You want to prototype, trail, test, and simulate to de-risk the right side of the V lifecycle.

Deviating slightly. Disciplined use of product maturity helps to ensure the efficient investigation of things like obsolescence and quality alerts. It allows users to filter out designs that are no longer supported, giving the engineers more time to focus on the new designs, rather than fixing a problem that doesn't exist anymore.
