The edit distance is a measurement determining how similar or dissimilar two strings are. The edit distance has multiple implementations. One implementation is a dynamic programming solution where the strings are compared in increasingly long chunks. This works because you have a fixed point where once you add a character you cannot cross over. Edit distance also has a more sophisticated invitation called the Four Russians. This implementation improves upon the dynamic programming solution by cashing a bunch of prototypes. This can improve upon the edit distance algorithm by factor K.
