3 How to use SNMP security and encryption?

To use SNMP security and encryption, you need to specify the SNMP user, security level, and encryption algorithm when you send or receive SNMP messages. For example, if you want to use the SNMP user admin with the security level authPriv and the encryption algorithm AES to get the system uptime of a network device, you can use the following command: snmpget -v 3 -u admin -l authPriv -a SHA -A password -x AES -X password device_ip_address sysUpTime.0 This command will send an encrypted SNMP message to the device with the IP address device_ip_address , authenticate the user admin with the password password and the algorithm SHA , and request the value of the OID sysUpTime.0 . The device will respond with an encrypted SNMP message that contains the system uptime value, if the user admin has the permission to access that OID.

You can also use SNMP security and encryption to set values, receive notifications, or perform other SNMP operations, as long as you specify the appropriate parameters and options for your SNMP messages.
