Basically all programming languages founds origin in C/C++. So whatever you can program with C/C++ , Python can be used in more efficient as replacement. Python have user friendly syntax and good documentation. Python got famous after Raspberry pi came into market. To explore full capabilities of Raspberry pi such as image processing python is only language that can be compatible with Pi .

Actually I'm disagree with using python libraries in design procedure, because I think it's not capable or at least not armed enough and has little flexibility. There are many magnificent software that make it easy to design and test the robots in a simulation environment. But I have to mention blender is one of those softwares that able to communicate with python. It could be a good option. Finally using python alone could be not feasible, instead some stronger and professional softwares like blender which is communicate with python could be a better option.

An example could be making a socket communication between an ESP32 microcontroller which programmed with micropython and has ability to read sensors through cable communication and send it to a server which run a service that read the socket and shows the data.
