Depending on your industry, team, and project management approach, the M&E tools vary. You can utilize Gantt charts, PERT charts, Pareto charts, flowcharts, burn-up and burndown charts for Agile teams. My personal favourite is the Gantt chart. It allows you to monitor every single step, task, hour of work etc. A precisely filled Gantt chart can help you big-time, basically giving you the big picture of the ongoing processes of your project.

Talking about stakeholder expectations takes me back to the shared vision of the project, still in the project design phase and which is part of the charter and must be defined immediately as an indicator (OKR) for follow-up and available in a transparent manner. Another point and, for me, even more important, are the deliverables. For me, personally, the deliverables matrix became a mandatory artifact and deliverables became a restriction on the projects. In the deliverables matrix, it's possible to add contractual references to the deliverable, the way the stakeholders wishes to receive it (Object of the contract or Document?), the control follow-up of the deliverable, including the project phase which is linked to the expiration date.

M&E tools are valuable in mitigating resource management risks in capacity building projects. Through data collection methods, project managers can monitor budget, schedule, and quality, identifying areas of concern. Regular reviews of efficiency, effectiveness, and economy offer improvement and optimization opportunities.
