This whole article misses the mark. The point of agile estimating is that it is supposed to be neither time-consuming nor complex. PERT is both. I have used PERT for traditional projects, about 25 years ago. Since then I have not seen one agile team leverage this in any way. I can’t see how this would be useful for team estimating.

This is really another nonsense article courtesy of AI. PERT was originally developed for the U.S. Navy's Polaris nuclear submarine project. These sorts of projects require much more effort upfront than an agile delivery. It also encourages silo’d responsibilities and doesn’t really allow for validated learning. If you really need estimates of "most likely time", "optimistic time", and "pessimistic time" then you would be better off using a probabilistic forecasting model which is better aligned with the type of estimation assumptions that an agile delivery would require.
