It works better than predetermined / canned humor that makes some speakers use the same jokes and anecdotes in similar situations. I'd agree with Azhar, the tone has to be organically set by the team, as they come together and share their stories, their paths, personal stuff and even insecurities. I invite my teams to create and then vote on nicknames for all, including me. It lends for humorous play in our daily comms and it has worked well for most of my teams.
