There are many evidence-based models that you can use to support your peers, depending on your context, purpose, and preference. For instance, the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) model is a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented model that focuses on creating mutual and transformative relationships between peers. It involves four tasks: connection, worldview, mutuality, and moving towards. The Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) model is a self-management and recovery model that helps peers to identify and use their own strengths, resources, and strategies to cope with challenges and achieve their goals. This model covers five key areas: daily maintenance, triggers, early warning signs, crisis planning, and post-crisis planning. The Peer Support Whole Health and Resiliency (PSWHR) model is a holistic and wellness-focused model that helps peers to improve their physical, mental, emotional, and social health. It uses motivational interviewing, goal setting, action planning, and peer support groups to address various aspects of health and well-being. Lastly, the Peer-Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model is a skill-based and problem-solving model that helps peers to change their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may interfere with their recovery. This involves using cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, exposure, and relapse prevention techniques to cope with various issues.
