My favorite CAD software is Autodesk Inventor. I've been using it for about 20 years and for the last two years, I've also been using SolidWorks. Mostly, they are the same programs with more or less the same functions, much like two cars with the same features. Both can get you from point 'A' to point 'B,' both have engines, suspension and so on. Despite looking almost the same, the accelerator pedal of the first car responds softly and gains speed faster. It also has a pleasant closing door sound and does not sound like a tank with loose bolts when you ride on a bumpy road, I think you get the point. I'm not saying that Inventor is a Bentley and SW is a Soviet 'Lada.' The difference is not that vast, but still quite significant.
One thing I've found helpful from an employee standpoint is being able to adapt to different software with minimal transition time. Like some of the others have said, the software choice becomes a preference in most cases but as an employee, its not always going to be YOUR preference. I used Inventor for almost 10 years and then changed positions and switched to SolidWorks. There was a short time where I was struggling with the interface and just remembering where all the options were in SolidWorks but that didn't take long to get comfortable. I believe if you are a good engineer/designer you should be able to flow from one to another fairly seamlessly.
I've used Inventor, SWX, Solid Edge, etc for the past 15 years. From my perspective, it's a personal preference in reality and what you learn on. You love Autodesk because that is what you learned on and are used to. I HATE Autodesk and find it not very user-friendly on the other hand. But I learned 3D CAD on SWX, so I tend to float that way with my preference. Then I learned Solid Edge and LOVE it. However there are times I cuss it too. I cuss SWX everyday because performance wise, it sucks. I crash it often with large assemblies. I think if I could create a CAD package with my favorite workflows and features from SWX, Inventor, Edge, Pro-E, etc. then it would be awesome
