How can you use data to identify areas where your team needs more motivation?

Team motivation analysis for us is a combination of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. We use surveys, 1-2-1 check ins with managers and Friday lunch meetings to gather words of the week, monthly reflections and other useful data. Once we have the data, we can provide an environment and job resources to deal with whatever the themes are uncovered. Ultimately, however, individual motivation is owned and fostered by the individual, and then that energy is translated into the team and company.

I have seen organizations neglect culture and wonder why people are not motivated. Little things like allowing leaders to be nasty to subordinates, or allowing disrespectful "speak" can affect the culture of an organization. Left unchecked, the psychological safety of an organization becomes damaged. Motivating an organization requires cultivating a great Culture. Culture will eat strategy for breakfast.

Motivating a team can be a continuous process, but a simple tool like a daily feeling chart can be surprisingly effective. Here's how it works: 1. Chart it Up: Create a chart with simple options for how team members are feeling, like "Energetic," "Neutral," or "Stressed." Make it anonymous and easily accessible, like a whiteboard or online form. 2. Daily Check-in: Encourage team members to mark their current feeling at the start of the day. This quick assessment provides a snapshot of the overall team mood. 3. Open Communication: Use the chart as a springboard for open communication. Encourage team members to share feedback, concerns, and suggestions for improvement.

Ensure that you aren't just considering motivation as an individually driven construct. Look also at the environment and the impact that Job demands and Job resources (JDR theory) have on both motivation and burnout. This encourages us to view the employee in a system, "fixing" the work, not the person.

Two thoughts: 1: Motivation is outside in, not inside out. You don't wake up one day suddenly motivated- you need the right stimulation. I worked on a team where our weekly update call was a quiz for 25 minutes, and an update for 5- pretty much guarantees attendance. It's much easier to talk when you're comfortable with your team, so it helped to generate more open conversation, ultimately removing obstacles and making people feel more valued, leading to better motivation. 2: It's easy to overcomplicate measuring motivation, when simple metrics often tell a story: lateness, absence or high turnover are all classic indicators of low motivation.

A good means is an employee engagement survey. Once you analyze and gain useful insights, then it helps to develop measures to address the varying ways to motivate.

Pulse surveys, which are short but regular is a great way to analyse progression and changes in motivation over time. Although the data will be incremental it can be far easier to manage any downturn in motivation , rather than waiting for one annual or biennial survey.

Thus, if the culture is constructed around squeezing every bit of effort out of employees, it will be hard to motivate within those constraints due to decreased time and energy to engage other work. Culture must mimic the ideal strategy. This includes: 1) Conducting cultural assessments 2) Ensuring leaders' behavior aligns with the desired culture 3) Training all employees on emotional intelligence 4) Using positive affirmations as a source of leadership influence 5) Allowing for individual self-expression and support of individual differences, which fosters connectedness and intrinsic motivation

Understanding your team members' values can assist you as a leader/manager to adapt your style, strategies and approaches to ensure that your people feel recognised and appreciated daily. I simple "Thank you" or "I appreciate you" can make a big difference to people.

La estrategias no son en papel y no deben ser comunes, las del libro. Deben ir acorde con las necesidades estratégicas del equipo y alinearse la perfil del líder. Esta es la parte más complicada del proceso. Ask them Come up with options amd solutions Set an a tion plan Motivate them and show Belief that you can all do it For example, the 15% might represent a goal and action and a team committing to for example, "I just need two completed survey form, two clients, one collaborator, two focus groups, five interviews,three sales "........whatever that may be data can help to inform the next step and part of the extrinsic motivation ??

Check motivation whenever the collective results aren’t what is needed. Especially if no one is meeting the mark. (If someone is, figure that out and explain it. It’s not a motivation issue. ) If everyone is failing at a particular metric, the metric may be: 1. Wrong - make sure the data you are using is accurate 2. Wrong - make sure the dat you are using actually measures the thing you’re looking to accomplish. If the metric still looks okay, it’s possible that what you are attempting: 1. Just won’t work. Try something else. 2. Is something the team doesn’t know how to do yet. Find the roadmap and start measuring the first step, not the destination. You can’t motivate other people. You can only support and provide feedback.
