Effectively communicating performance can be planned and defined well before the first measure comes in, leading to all levels understanding performance results. Creating a hierarchy of goals that ladder into each other, similar to OKR is an effective way to understandand communicate the entire marketing ecosystem. Goals and measures for company, department, program, team/channel, tactic go a long way to be able to expectations and set performance results at every level.

In addition to the SMART concept, all communication goals and strategies should be intentionally aligned with organizational values and all metrics and measurements should promote equity.
