Shape contrast is another way to create contrast in UED, allowing you to differentiate elements, create variety, and improve recognition. However, shape contrast can also be challenging to use, as it can affect the alignment, proximity, and repetition of your design. To effectively use shape contrast in UED, try using circles for icons, squares for buttons, and triangles for arrows. You can also create variety and interest by using irregular or organic shapes for images, illustrations, or backgrounds; or geometric or angular shapes for logos, charts, or diagrams. Additionally, use familiar or symbolic shapes for icons, labels, or categories; and unique or distinctive shapes for logos, brands, or products. Finally, ensure harmony and consistency by using similar or related shapes for elements that belong to the same group, function, or theme.
