In my experience, making eye contact and smiling with your eyes the few seconds you hold their gaze while presenting not only creates a sense of intimacy but builds trust as well. It also makes you come off as friendly and approachable.

Normally, I would choose someone within the audience, and I keep eye contact with them while I am presenting things. For instance, I would choose one person in the corner of the right and one was in the corner of the left and one person in the back, one person in the front so people will think that I’m communicating with everybody even though just talking to four or five people in the room.

In my experience, we unknowingly, possess body languages which restrict the natural flow of empathy during presentations. Let's call them EB (empathy blockers). And I believe, the journey towards empathy begins with self awareness. These EBs could distract or mislead the audience creating confusion. For example, it could be unnecessarily pacing the stage, inconsistent facial expression (say, happy for a sad narrative), eye contact to just a section of the audience, moistening the lips often etc. These are tricky to uncover because we consider them natural and hence, lay hidden.
