How can you use alumni ambassadors to boost fundraising for your organization?

In my experience it is important to engage alumni in your program before asking for support. Of they are engaged the funding will follow but they need to be engaged first.

Completely agree, they can write their testimonies in a profound and practical ways so they help in securing support. They are the first witness so their word is convincing, they can leverage their connections and platform for expanded fund raising mechanism.

Being part of an alumni is a great way of giving back. People who join the alumni typically enjoyed their time at the college/organisation etc. Be gentle though - encourage them back to network and then suggest ways in which the alumni might be helpful and ambassadors - but give first.

- in my experience, this must, absolutely must be a group pf dedicated people. Even if it is a small group dedication is the key factor to success!

Alumni ambassadors need to be engaged before they become alumni. Offer them ways to stay involved before they graduate or complete your programming; and follow through on those ways! Alumni might not be in a position to be donors for a long time; but they can be social media ambassadors, Peer2Peer fundraisers, or leverage contributions from their employers.

I think they could be volunteers at the beginning, from who believes in your mission and message and to know how much they are able to show your organization as representative and your brand

One item to note is that not all people use the same channels of communication, so you may have some ambassadors wanting all electronic documents/forms, while others want only printed ones. Be sure you ask the ambassadors what they prefer, and accommodate their requests. A dedicated volunteer staff member (at least part-time), helps guide and steward the individual(s) in the way that is most effective. We know volunteers often become donors or vice-versa, so it’s important to give them thoughtful attention.
