Sun Microsystems had a technology called "Live Upgrade" which ya could patch/upgrade the OS of the system while it was in use. Then during an outage window you could reboot into the upgraded / patched environment. And if ya needed to rollback, it was a simple rollback to the previous OS/environment.

also make sure your current available disk space on OS 's drive coz it will eat your disk space if you choose method upgrade existing OS to new OS version
