How can you train your team to focus on results?

SMART goals are some of the best ways to plan and achieve your goals in work but also in life. I’ve found that setting those specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals is one of the best ways to assure achievement.

What would we ALL be without feedback? Every single person within any relationship needs feedback. This includes the workplace. Otherwise we are all aimlessly taking a stab in dark at what is working and we won’t be able to plan or adjust/learn.

In my opinion creating a collective sense of accountability helps people celebrate successes and drive performance as a whole.

1) Get the top manager to mandate attendance and 100% participation 2) Ensure success and adaptation of behavior by factoring in accountability I train my attendees in a group and then meet with them 2 weeks later 1:1 to review what they've drafted to change. I'm prepared with the firm's goals/strategic vision to refashion or tweak the attendee's draft along those lines, mindful of the firm's desired end results. This has always resulted in a successful project because we all leave our ego at the proverbial door and my approach with each attended, regardless their seniority, is to urge them on to be 1 or 2 steps better, with my observations on top of their draft, explaining why I suggest this, being consistent with the firm's desires.

This is how you train your team to excel; 1) Promote a culture of continuous learning. 2) Devise clear objectives and measurable goals. 3) Use diverse training methods; 1:1, combined & independent learnings. 4)?Practical hands-on training, learning through experience and active participation. 5) Define quantitative and qualitative measures to evaluate the achievement of specific goals or objectives. ?

The key question is whether you are looking for good results or excellent results. There is a growing trend towards putting a greater emphasis on acknowledging effort, compared to results. E.g. at the sports day, every child gets a medal / certificate for participating in a race......even the one that comes last. Some would say that this is a good way to encourage participation, but in my view, this reduces the hunger and drive to win. Such an approach is likely to get you good results, but if we are looking for excellent results, then we need to raise the bar and generate that hunger.....and for that we need to put a greater emphasis on results and reward those who win
