Students are visual learners. I also want to add that providing examples of past student projects also helps students to be able to see the finished product. I generally show student examples of projects that have received a high mark so they can also aim for that. I also provide a rubric for that specific project and tell the students to use the rubric as a checklist. When you set expectations in the beginning then it makes it easier to avoid confusion.

There are many ways to help learners demonstrate that they have achieved learning outcomes through project based learning. I have allowed students to produce differentiated book report projects to demonstrate their understanding of a novel.
