Never produce for the crowd; make sure you love your own production. Then, they came to me. That's my experience.

I half agree with this. Yes, don't ask for favors. But, don't just try to build rapport and trust either. Learn from pros; do work that celebrates clients, even free of charge. Be the guy pros are glad to advise and clients are happy to do a shoot with because you love doing and improving what you do with others.

When a friend connected me with a big producer in the industry, I wrote one follow up later being thankful, but letting him know we couldn't work together for the foreseeable future. After that, I didn't waste his precious time. Sometimes, not pestering with follow-ups is the best respect. Don't follow people, then unfollow them just to boost your ratios. Don't treat an OG or street fan as your BFF. It's okay to treat every connection as it truly is; just be nice as you do.
