Nothing beats a good communication to the upper management, cyber security personnel must develop a good communication skill in order to convey the security concerns to a non-technical audience.

Develop the skill that I like to call being bilingual: be able to smoothly and clearly describe complex technical topics to executives without using technical terms, while also being able to talk with technology people using the right technical terms and concepts.

Showcasing and communicating cyber in business risk terms is key. Execs are interested in risks from the potential business impacts, not geek jargon and CVE of the week.

Always wear Hawaiian Shirts. Bright, colorful, fun. Lots of different ones, so you don’t repeat often. Go all in and embrace the vibe.

First and foremost, be a real person, nerd out on the things that excite you and bring others along for the ride. The passion you carry can be infectious. Allow your work to speak for itself and learn to speak in terms of business risk. No one really cares about vulnerability X or Zero-Day Y unless you can communicate it in terms of impact to the bottom line. Being proficient in these areas will light you up like a christmas tree to Senior leadership.

Staying constantly updated can lead to paranoia after a while. It may be necessary to distinguish between virtual life and real life. However, in today's technology, real life and virtual life are quite intertwined.

Information security is a rapidly changing and evolving field that requires you to keep up to date with the latest trends, threats and solutions. You should always be curious and eager to learn new things and expand your knowledge and skills. You can do this by reading blogs, newsletters, podcasts and books, participating in webinars, courses and conferences, and participating in online communities and forums. You can also seek feedback and guidance from your colleagues and elders, and share your insights and opinions with them. By staying up to date and curious, you can show your passion, initiative and innovation in information security.

Cybersecurity is a demanding field and learning is part of your job to keep yourself updated with latest threat vectors. You can only defend something you know about so hiring managers expect you to demonstrate that you are keeping yourself updated. Cybersecurity Certifications are key to demonstrate that you are ready to put in hard yards to keep yourself updated. A cybersecurity expert must be proactive in seeking out new knowledge and skills, not only to keep pace with emerging threats but also to stay ahead of them. Various avenues facilitate this ongoing learning process. Engaging with podcasts allows you to dig deeper into specific topics, gaining diverse perspectives and real-world insights. Attending webinars, courses, and conferences serves as a direct pipeline to latest information and expert analyses. These events not only provide a platform for learning but also facilitate networking with peers, security vendors.

In the field of security, keeping a keen eye on live cyber threats like breaches, ransomware, malware, and other critical aspects happening in the wild is extremely crucial for making a strong impression on upper management. Who wouldn't pay more attention to the junior analyst already thinking about what could happen? Breaches occur in major organizations daily, and that curiosity could save millions of dollars, not to mention confidential information. From my own experience, I can attest that this proactive approach not only demonstrates your dedication to safeguarding the organization but also showcases your ability to anticipate and effectively handle a broad spectrum of security risks. Attackers are evolving, evolve with them.

The first and foremost thing for a security team is to align the information security objectives with organisation and business goals… example of your organisation goal is to zero sensitive data breaches then we have to ensure all our technology,people, tools, and processes align to this objective along with a effective communication of results to management on a timely basis.

Well, having a grasp of business-technology alignment is imperative to bridging the business and technology dichotomy. It is fundamental to speak to business in terms understood by the decisions makers and other stakeholders. An information security professional must be seen as advancing the interest of the business at every turn while doing his job, otherwise, he will at loggerheads with his stakeholders which would impact adversely. Implication is information security objectives must always align with business objectives. It's information security for the business and not the other way round.

Being proactive and adaptable is important in the field of information security. Instead of waiting for problems to occur, it is important to anticipate and prevent them. Additionally, being prepared to respond and recover from incidents or breaches is essential. Continuously seeking ways to enhance processes, tools, and methods is necessary, while remaining open to change and new challenges. Collaboration and flexibility are also important skills, as they enable working effectively with various teams and projects. By demonstrating proactivity and adaptability, one can establish reliability, efficiency, and resilience in information security.

1. Have a regular check of the security level of the organisation's infrastructure. 2. Being more adaptive is not a good choice because, after the threat, you don't find time to adapt the systems. 3. But you can be adaptive by having the latest global level of protection for the infrastructure. 4. By being proactive, we can stop some of the upcoming threats. But once the threat happens, concentrate on detaching the infected parts of the infrastructure, because it may cause more damage when we are too slow to remove it. It may spread all over. So try the isolation method. 5. Be careful with each move that you make to the infrastructure. 6. Get the expertise and help needed.

Treat security as a feature. For example: customers will be more likely to engage with our organization because we have a compelling and comprehensive security strategy. They are more likely to trust our products and services because we have implemented defense in depth, performed regular audits, and tested our security using industry best practices. This security posture could allow us to expand into new markets where security is a major concern.

Like every other team at the company, your security org is there to help the business be successful. Ultimately businesses exist to make money, not to be secure. The security team is there to help keep the business out of trouble, and to help them move safely at a speed appropriate for their industry. Security incidents can erode customer trust, cause reputational damage, and result in fines. Moving too slowly allows competitors to gain an advantage. Make sure that the goals of your security program enable the business to do their best work, while simultaneously providing an appropriate amount of protection based on the sensitivity of the data you possess.

If the Information Security is not aligned with the business goals. It won't considered effective and will lose its value. Aligning with business goals is the utmost important point here.

Its just not align with the business goals but with your key stakeholders. With these key partnerships it will be easier to show your value because you understand their needs and how they want to operate.

Soft skills are extremely important and can be the best way to market yourself if you're transitioning from another field where you held a highly respected position. It's absolutely one of my favorite things to showcase in an interview, and if you resonate with this, it could be yours too. Being technical is important too, but when it comes to soft skills, that's how the team goes about getting the job done, and how you, as an individual, can positively impact everyone every single day, whether it's as a leader or just knowing how to communicate what needs to get done in the most effective way possible to reach each individual for a shared goal. This, in turn, can make an incident slightly less stressful and be resolved quicker.

It is important to remember that information security goes beyond technical abilities. To be effective in this field, it is essential to develop these skills in order to collaborate effectively, manage time and stress, handle conflicts and crises, and inspire and motivate others. Take advantage of opportunities to showcase your soft skills, such as leading a project, mentoring, volunteering, or speaking at an event. By improving your soft skills, you can demonstrate your potential in the field of information security.

Create a persona and assume it for an Uber ride. Do it until it isn't the most uncomfortable thing ever. Identify someone you admire professionally and assume their persona; how would they respond to a given situation or what would they say?

Networking also has to meaningful. Attending limited but useful seminars, talking to relevant people who matter and provide constructive feedback and overall trying to make a more meaningful contribution within the community is the way to go. Tech collaborations are a Brilliant way to extend ones network.

Building a robust connection is essential. Attend events, join associations, and actively participate in discussions to establish meaningful relationships with fellow information security professionals. Contribution to publications, whether blogs or industry journals, enhances visibility and credibility, this strategy has helped me so far. Maintaining a sterling reputation is equally vital. However in the AI era it has become quiye challenging to identify the real & fake profiles on social media platforms. Its important to ensure you are vigilant while accepting or sending connections.

In order for security people to be taken seriously and not known as the "Office of No", you have to understand how the business actually works. If you don't know what the revenue generating people do, and how they do it, you won't be able to make security an enabler.

Post it. Write down an opinion you have. Expand upon that a little. Post it on LinkedIn. Don't edit it or re-read is 100x - just throw it out there. Do that twice a week or a few months. Iterate and improve.

Having credibility is a must for any initiative you drive. If you are known for making it happen, delivering and being successful, then the organization will believe in you and support you in your initiative.

One of the more effective ways to do this is to be able to quantify the returns on the investments done from an Information Security perspective. That's not an easy job by any means. Having said that, such returns calculations must take into account the Control efficacy of these investments, the residual risk and a ballpark sense of all the risks that this investment could mitigate (of course with a likelihood).

Cultivate relationships with stakeholders across departments to foster collaboration and support for security initiatives. Stay ahead of emerging threats and technologies, and pursue relevant certifications to demonstrate expertise and commitment. Consistency is key, demonstrating these qualities consistently can help you stand out.

Care about your work. Caring is the single biggest factor that can set you apart from others. In addition, manage expectations with your stakeholders.
