“Before you jump…” — I cannot **disagree** with this more. Go ahead and jump. You will learn more from your experiences than you will from anything else. Nothing prevented more people from making progress than the idea that “you need to have a clear idea of where you are and where you want to go.” Having said that, be self-evaluative, but don’t let that stop you taking action. And yes, you might take steps backwards, but that’s OK. Just don’t risk standing still.

Your reputation is one of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of your freelancing practice. Protect your reputation with your life. My success as a freelancer for 10 years was mostly due to my reputation as someone who delivered quality work and was a good person to work with. I didn’t have the best website or social media presence, but people gave unsolicited references, by name. Build strong relationships with your customers on a foundation of Trust, and you will succeed.
