Resume scanning is an art and you should first and foremost follow a process that is comfortable for you. I opt to start with deal breakers. Identify your deal breakers and then scan resumes for those. If a candidate has a deal breaker i.e lacks specific types of education, experience, specific work setting or in my case patient population experience you can move on from that candidate and not worry about digging deeper.

It's equally important to understand the hiring manager as a person, on how they are building the team, what key factors matters a lot to the stakeholder while building the team. Because it's not only about the JD (the tech skills), it's also about the persona that the stakeholder is hiring. And hence good working relationship with stakeholders is as important as the above mentioned pointers in order to screen the right talent for the team.
It is important to understand that simply assessing talent by a resume can present a missed opportunity to engage with top talent. For instance, resumes may not be the forte of certain individuals due to accessibility needs. Think past the paper, pick up the phone and have a conversation with the individual.
