Infrastructure (processing, memory) scalability for any given platform has the following maturity path - 1 - Basic - Physical instance replicated with Docker or Kubernetes. Ideally by placing a Message Broker or Load Balancer in the front. This requires minimum changes in the application but comes with disadvantages like shallow scalability (no memory sharing across instance) or pessimistic locking of the processes. 2 - Basic Plus - Besides putting a Broker in front, separate the DB layer with a common instance thats spanning across the defined set of instances. 3 - Cluster Based - Rearchitecting the application as a set of independent services that can run in its own containerized process, which can grow or collapse based on the load.
