on most optical drives there is a small hole and you can use a straightened out paper clip to poke in the hole to get the door to pop open. To swap out an internal optical drive is usually a couple of screws on a slide, a drive cable and a power cable. 20 or 30 minutes at most.

In some situations we have problem in opening optical drive door .May be a disk stuck in optical drive, so we have to use a thick and tall metal things to force eject the odd door.

This part is not the same when you work with OEM ( my experience with some different form factors ), sometimes you have to remove other components to reach the wires like power and data, don't need to unscrew, just pull or push to . It's important to follow the manual.
