I would say the first step is to understand the environment that you are proposing to work in. How can you work with it and enhance what’s already there

One of the primary benefits of impact assessment is that it is an inclusion strategy. This step ensures critical involvement of the people and promotes ownership that can help identify potential environmental concerns and design mitigation measures that are sustainable

Under Guatemalan Law and Regulations, is mandatory to prepare an environmental impact assessment and submitt it before the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Once approved, the Ministry will issue a list of environmental commitmets to be fulfilled by the requester during the project lifetime.

Setting your vision is the starting point. From conception you should be setting a vision to implement a low carbon, environmentally integrated and social value aligned project, once this is achieved you must then set your strategic approach and specifications to drive this against the setting you are placing your project. In taking this approach you will achieve the best value and streamlined outputs. Waiting to later stages to assess your projects impact causes reworks and cost increases due to the need to retrofit a project to reduce its impact.

Using sustainable practices and keeping the environment in mind at every stage of the project's lifecycle are key to minimizing the environmental impact of consulting projects

Consulting is limited by the clients budget. The best option is the one that's within their budget so I don't get lost in the lofty slogans pumped out by consulting agencies.

When project implemenntation comes into action, continiuos monitoring and controlling procedures should apply. And selection of competence parties who engage in implemenntation is crucial.

Use SMART objectives to make sure you have a plan to implement your solutions. Your environmental management system is only as good as the action taken to protect the environment and enhance environmental performance

Consider your audience and the different tiers of information you will need to communicate and ensure robust data collection principles to make sure you have the information available. If you have a lot of interested parties, assess their needs and expectations through a stakeholder analysis.

Continuously review your performance using appropriate metrics. Ensure stakeholder engagement and SMART action planning to achieve your objectives.

Reducing the environmental impact in consulting projects is imperative.
