Another advantage of these open source solutions is the massive community that is usually behind them. It becomes unecessary to keep reinventing the wheel when there are already existing functions and libraries that solve the problem and are freely available. Additionally there are open discussions and usually an enthusiastic community and/or forum to go and ask specific questions about these existing solutions. Time can be saved by using well understood, existing solutions to part of an overall problem.

La principal fuente de error que hemos visto en nuestros proyectos son los cambios bruscos en la reflectividad de los objetos. Hoy en día, los LiDARs más avanzados como Ouster o Velodyne cuentan con medición y calibración de la reflectividad, sin embargo otros sensores no cuentan con esta tecnología y pueden generar deformaciones muy importantes. Es común ver deformaciones por cambios en la reflectividad causados por agua o nieve en alguna superficie.
