How can you promote a sense of belonging for diverse team members during project meetings?

Be considerate and empathetic to the dynamics that come with diversity. The dynamics include cultural awareness or sensitivity, use of language and adopting a curious mindset that is eager to learn. Avoid having a 'one size fits all' approach as it sidelines people hence resulting in hostilities.

It’s crucial to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard. Imagine a project meeting where each member, regardless of background or role, is asked for their input on the agenda before the meeting. During meetings, actively encourage participation by inviting quieter members to share their ideas, and acknowledge all contributions with interest and gratitude. A few ideas that came to mind when thinking about the topic is: 1. having a daily morning meeting about what will happen for the day, the roles everyone has, delegating tasks, asking for support when needed 2. spending lunch or breaks together to connect over common ground and interests 3. celebrating wins as well as mentioning each person's contribution that day (appreciative acknowledgment). When I worked with a team I appreciated each others knowledge, strengths and collaboration which made the project (hybrid meeting set-up) work out well. This included respectful communication and sharing of ideas for the common goal (club members being able to attend regular meetings).
