Stay well informed about the many environmental topics. Both current and past ones. Information can change quickly. Familiarize yourself with scientific publications, websites, and media that have up to date, accurate, and reliable information. There are a lot of misconceptions out there based on both ignorance and erroneous information. The library should be able to share and disseminate correct information about sustainable practices in a way that can reach the intended audience- and thus the librarians need to be knowledgeable about environmental issues.

On the most fundamental level, an argument for developing digital literacy is to use digital collections so users can access primary sources without climbing into a car or onto an airplane to come to our library or archive. The above mentioned strategies all support sustainability, however, media use requires critical thinking. There are too many outlets using artificial intelligence to manipulate populations with fake news. Digital literacy increasingly means rooting out sources to verify truth and accuracy. Always go to the sources. You may agree or disagree with them but go to the sources before you share it as opinion… the scams that can rob you of your bank account are not different from those that rob you of your vote.
