How can you prioritize areas of operations for a lean management program?

To figure out where to focus your lean efforts, first map out your processes to spot the unnecessary steps. Listen to what bugs your customers the most and tackle those areas first to keep them happy. Look for the biggest time and resource wasters in your operation—things like delays, too much stock, or unnecessary steps. Check out your performance stats to see where you're lagging. Make sure you've got the right people and enough dough to make changes where they're really needed. Line up your lean projects with the big-picture goals of your company, aiming for areas that'll help you grow or save the most money. Starting with small test projects can help you get quick wins and figure out what works best before going all in.

Stakeholders involvement is very essential for the success of any project. The needs of customers are to be ascertained at every stage of project progress, as customer gets "educated" during project stages and demands "changes in scope" that deeply affect the project schedule and the project budget. Customer impact is very crucial for project "commercial closure".

To me the fundamental in the first moment is check if your technical requirements reflect in what consumer are expecting as a product and service. After eliminate specs that not adding value and include what os missing. Balancing what is really meaningful and important to your consumer or customers.

"Lean management" is all about optimal use of resources, during all the processes. "Communication gaps" can seriously impact the processes with wastages, mistakes and delays all increasing the budget.

"Lean management" is all about resource optimization. Resources are scarce and proper allocation of resources like budget, time, manpower are key tasks of the project leader. Ascertaining timely progress in every process for "Lean management" to prioritize allocation of resources is very vital.

Here I agree. The quick wins are good for morale and help give the boost that an improvement trajectory needs. I personally would also advocate starting the difficult and long-term trajectories at the same time. As you start those during times when energy is high and successes come in via the low hanging fruit, you automatically boost these improvements and make it easier on yourself.

They also need to cover qualitative and quantitative aspects and should represent all stakeholder perspectives (customers, suppliers, staff, leadership etc). Also, I strongly recommend prioritising on the basis of 'value for effort' - in other words consider the total value a process provides against all criteria, then divide this into the effort or cost to execute that process. Prioritise those processes which are the lowest value for the highest effort

The most overlooked step in any plan, the implementation. Too often we see great plans go dusty on shelves and before we know we are off track or in areas out of scope. Implementation should also be supported by robust monitoring and reporting.

"Continuous and continual improvement" are keys for project completion within the schedule and budget.
